The Royal Ballet and Opera Staff Conductor Martin Georgiev conducted the triple bill Perspectives at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, featuring a World Premiere by Cathy Marston – Against the Tide starring Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto, alongside two modern ballets, widely acclaimed in the British press:
The Times:
No doubt about the music, though – it’s stunning, especially with Vasko Vassilev as the solo violinist mining its tortured intimacy and the conductor Martin Georgiev drawing out its grandeur from the orchestra.
Debra Craine
Financial Times:
Martin Georgiev and the orchestra made the very most of the music’s unsettling light and shade but the loudest cheers were for Vasko Vassilev’s violin – just as they were after Hart’s premiere in 1996. Had he been on stage I doubt we’d have seen a step.
Louise Levene
The Independent:
Conducted by Martin Georgiev with violinist Vasko Vassilev, the music is stormy and satisfyingly textured.
Zoe Anderson
British Theatre Guide:
Huge credit must go to violinist Vasko Vassilev and conductor Martin Georgiev, both simply sublime. Dance and a music concert in one—doesn’t get better than this.
Vera Liber
London Evening Standard:
Martin Georgiev conducts the terrific orchestra, Peck’s quicksilver shifts keep coming: nifty footwork and full-blooded turns, blare and slide, swoon and salute. It isn’t a story – but it’s a hurtling journey.
David Jays
Gramilano:
Top marks also need to go to conductor Martin Georgiev, who drew some marvellous playing from the Orchestra of the Royal Ballet and Opera, especially in Britten’s Violin Concerto. If you decide Cathy Marston’s ballet is not for you, you can simply close your eyes and just listen to the wonderful music instead.

Alongside Marston’s world premiere, the Triple Bill featured Balanchine’s famous Serenade choreographed to Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, and Justin Peck’s Everywhere We Go with music by Sufjan Stevens.
