Album Release: Violin Concerto
Martin Georgiev was living in London during the spring lockdown of 2020. It was a challenging – even frightening – time for everyone. Touched by the heroics of medical doctors, health workers and researchers, he wrote and dedicated this concerto to them. Created in Georgiev’s own compositional technique called ‘Morphing Modality’, the 12 movements can be heard singly or collectively in any number or sequence. The common thread of hope which connected members of the medical profession with each one or any number of us who depend on them, is symbolised by the musical inner coherence which takes precedence over imposed continuity or entirety. Georgiev wrote the concerto for Vasko Vassilev, violinist extraordinaire, who combines a solo superstar career with other responsibilities as Concertmaster at the Royal Opera House; and Founder/Artistic Director of Covent Garden Soloists. This recording was made by methods developed by Vasko Vassilev which he also used successfully for the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballett’s innovative and most-viewed social media online performances during lockdown. This album is now available on all major digital music stores.
